#7--WorldCat and More FirstSearch

I clicked into WorldCat and the advanced tab was already open for me. So I typed in my book title "A Clearing in the Wild by Jane Kirkpatrick".  I hit search at the bottom of the page. It was the #4 book on the list of books that showed up. As you look at the book it gave the title, below that it gave you the author, publication. As you click onto the book it gave you lots more information about the book. As I was looking a little bit down I saw (Libraries worldwide own item: 1129) so I clicked into it and it gave me the location & libraries in which you can fine this book. The first library I had chosen it said --Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage, Alexander Mitchell LIBR was the top library. the next two I had chosen said--404-File or directory not found. On the fourth try I got into the site and this was Siouxland LIBR. It gave you the OCLC control number, it was a Fiction book and gave the ISBN number and how many copies they had in there library. You could also put a hold on the book if you would like too.  These were in South Dakota.  I also went into Iowa the top #1 went right to the book. This library had all the same kind of information but it only had on book. The three other ones I tried gave the same messages as in South Dakota. I click on the authors name and it showed one other book she had written in was on sound recording and I clicked on the next same authors name and it gave me 21 other books she had written. It showes two subjects the first one I picked it showed 175 titles matched:Women pioneers--fiction. Then I saw you could go to a web links to download or place a hold on some of the other books. Then I went back to click on the second subject. It had 18 titles matched:Social isolation--fiction. It also had some sound recording in this section to. I did see you could put some of these on hold or add to my list.
When I looked into other databases I chose ClasePeridica - Earthquakes it gave me 91 hits but within each search you could look at 457 searches. So plenty of information within this program.
Part 2 OAIster The record found 766. I had to look for a long while before I would fined any books in South Dakota.  Well it is getting late and I had to log off again.  This was more relaxing on this course. Almost caught up.

  1. Hmmm, Helpless. I want to be clear here. When you look at a record in WorldCat, you have a wealth of information about the book. From this record you can click the author and see what other items this person has written. You can click subjects and find other material on similar topics. When you look at which libraries own the book, in some cases you can get into their catalogs. Unless you are a patron of that library, you would not be able to place a hold on the item. OAIster has images and documents that you should be able to see if you click on the link in the record that says "Access." Thanks for digging in here and commenting.
